New NEO3DO Firmware includes latest Phereo app

Postby linuxluver » Sun Jan 12, 2014 9:06 am

David Briggs at NEO3DO sent me an email today with links to new firmware for the NEO3DO that includes a newer version of the Phereo app that supports the NEO3DO natively for displaying 3D.

I installed the new firmware from a 512MB MicroSD. David uses an Apple PC and it appears to allow him to format any sort of Micro SD as FAT file system. A Windows 7 or 8 PC won't offer that option. It will only offer FAT32 and I have never gotten that to work.

MicroSD (Not SDHC ) is up to 2GB in size. I use a 512MB old MicroSD and it installs updates to the NEO3DO perfectly.

Here is the content of David's email:

Hello Steve,

The best available option to get the brand new Phereo and also some more cool stuff is to back up your tablet and save all personal data to your computer and upgrade the tablet to the new firmware using the instructions provided below.

Jellybean firmware update

You do not NEED to upgrade to Jellybean however there are some new features including select 3D Games and slightly faster speed. I have provided a video which should help you through all steps. If you hit any problems shoot me an email – david@neo3do.com and ill get back to you quickly.

WATCH THE VIDEO TUTORIAL HERE - NEO3DO Upgrade to Jellybean

Download the new firmware below. it is 6 files and DO NOT need unzipped

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rlxaf29jxxce8wz/wUBU3JCUqf

Once the 6 files are on the Micro SD card simply turn off the tablet. Turn it on holding the power and Volume up button both and letting off after 5 seconds, it will auto update and restart with 3D games and on the Android Jellybean 4.1.1 operating system.

I had to reformat my micro SD card before i had a successful installation but it should be plug and play for most of you.

Any questions comment here or email david@neo3do.com

Thanks!

David

You're welcome.

Even better.....I was then able to upgrade to a newer version of Phereo that was released after the one in the firmware. No signing issues. So from my point of view, this problem is now completely fixed.

I can see 3D images via Phereo on the Neo3do 'natively'.
I can upgrade Phereo as new versions appear.

Excellent. I like this tablet. It also seems to be supported very well by the people who make / sell it.

Based on this post, I purchased my own Neo3DO tablet, and had a similar experience with excellent support by David Briggs and Neo3DO, who replaced my tablet free-of-charge when something went wrong during the firmware upgrade and bricked the device.

However, I've found that in both versions of the tablet, the original one and my new replacement, the Phereo app seems to display images left/right reversed. Since there doesn't appear to be an option in the app to reverse the display, this makes it pretty much unusable for viewing 3-D photos. This is very disappointing to me, since my main reason for purchasing this app was to view 3-D photos on Phereo.

Since linuxluver doesn't report the same problem, I have to assume that there is some hardware variation in the tablets and that only some of them are reversed in this way. But that doesn't help me. Is there any hope that Phereo may add a reverse-eyes option to the Phereo app in the next release?

Thanks,
David

I think, we can do something in the next version ;)

I just downloaded version 3.3 of this app, and was excited that it may solve my problem; but it seems it doesn't. The images are still reversed, and I don't see any new option to swap them. I suppose I have to wait for 3.4, then?

Thanks,
David

Yes, version 3.3 contains only Spanish language and fixes a several rare bugs. I'm sorry, but your feature request will be done only in version 3.4.
