Maximum Size/Resolution

It looks like the maximum photo size, in full-screen mode on desktop, is 960 px high. Can anyone confirm this?

Would there be any reason to upload a photo more than 960 px high, or more than, say, 300 ppi, or is that the effective maximum quality?
