But I have good news - hosting was paid for two years, so that the Phereo will not be closed in the near future. However, the service will not develop.

I'm sorry the service did not work out as planned for your team and financial situation. It is a very nice 3D service allowing upload in one format and have other 3D formats automatically supported without the user needing to do anything more for the conversion, all at the touch of an app button.

Though I'm assuming once the hosting plan runs out the site will be permanently shut down and unaccessible, so no further access to all the past member image uploads and use of the Phereo interface, as it will all be gone for good. I'll be sad to see it go when that day comes! :(

So what is the date that this prepaid 2 year hosting period ends ?

...and how much does that cost? If we can't fund development then maybe we can at least support the cost of the server.

Still wondering if you could provide an actual date when the paid 2-year hosting plan for the Phero.com site will run out Bulkinav, thank you.

What about linuxluver's suggestion of interested users being able to contribute funds to at least keep the site hosted and up and running as is, even if further development on the product is completely terminated ?

Though I believe it would be a little more complicated than simply that, because besides needing a hosting plan funding, it would also be necessary to retain the Phero.com domain as well, because that would also expire in time. There would also be a need for at least one current Phereo person, who is already involved in running the site, to be able to take care of the collection and make the proper necessary payments to keep the site up, as well as overlook basic site maintenance should something need attention. If not one person that was part of the Phereo team wants to remain involved with those basic site payment and upkeep requirements, then I guess Phereo.com would have to go the way of the wind when the current 2-year hosting plan ends . . . which would be unfortunate.

Thanks for any info and thoughts!

Regards,
Craig

I note Google Cardboard support was added to a recent update of the Phereo 3D Android app.

Something is still being done......

Hi guys!

Sorry for the delay in answering.

I think there is no need to worry about the existence of the Phereo platform because the cost of hosting and domain renewal is not such a large sum of money. And of course, I see no problem paying these bills on their own, without the help of the community (although I know that you are ready for it and we are very grateful to all).

I note Google Cardboard support was added to a recent update of the Phereo 3D Android app.

Yes, our former Android developer decided to add support of Google Cardboard and it's great! But all this is happening on a voluntary basis, without pay for work.

Hopefully the subscriptions you do have help pay for a reasonable part of the costs.

You could offer "Pro Gold" or whatever at a higher price. I'd pay more.

Should I set up several accounts and subscribe them all? :-)

Why not let three or four volunteers who are using the site keep the staff picks & featured categories alive?

I think there will be intellectual property issues tied up in all this. Phereo, as it stands, is a significant piece of work and has some value. I suspect if we REALLY wanted to get involved we would have to offer to purchase everything involved with it......assuming there was a willingness to sell.

At that point, any purchaser would be up against the same obstacles the previous investors were up against: how to monetise Phereo on a scale that would provide a return on the investment.

There are - in absolute numbers - a lot of people who are into 3D imaging. But they in terms of their relative proportion of the overall market, they are small.

Yet......everyone I show Phereo to is amazed and wonders how or why they have never heard of it....or 3D cameras....and the answer is that they 'buzz' around 3D imaging never really broke through into the mainstream to reach ENOUGH people to get their attention. Like any fundamental change, it often requires a BIG push over an extended period to get enough mindshare to become self-sustaining.

Plus...Phereo and 3D are an active 'technology'. One must create. I think we also, like on YouTube need to be able to create 'curated' playlists / collections of images that are excellent. The "Featured" and "Staff Picks" were heading in that direction....but users could / should be able to create their own curated lists and share those lists with communities of interest.

Anyway...if Phereo were to be for sale.....what would be the price?

I don't think so. All Phere.com would be doing is using volunteers rather than paid staff to keep selected areas of the site refreshed. Lots of fan sites have done just that. I am sure they can find an handful of talent on here willing to help with the Staff Picks and Featured categories. People willing to do it for the 'love of it'.
