Image saving on SD card

Saving on SD card option is one of the most asked for and the most discussed features of our Android app - there were a lot of comments on Android market regarding it. I'd like to make a short summary on this function:

1) Yes, we do allow saving shared images on Android devices. We understand that some people don't actually like the idea of their photos to be saved by third party users, but there are several arguments why we decided to allow that - I hope you find them reasonable:
--- if you buy a stereo-enabled smartphone, it is really painful that you can't show your friends any stereo images other than a couple of pre-installed pics and your own "my desk and my cup"-photos. Having some good saved images is very useful from this point - and we can't ignore that.
--- we allow saving images only in one format: JPS side-by-side, dimensions depending on smartphone screen. No other saving options, we give no access to source images etc. Phereo watermark is placed on top to state that the image was downloaded, not shot.
--- when the application operates, the viewed images are cached on a device and stay there for some time - so there's always a way to pull images out even without save option - so no reason not to provide this function.

2) As we were careful introducing this option, we decided not to make it too visible - and now not everyone understands how to save an image. Here's an instruction:
--- images are saved from Gallery view - that is when there are thumbnails of images except for the main page. Go to "Staff picks" or "Recent uploads" or any other image gallery available from main page.
--- make a long tap on a thumbnail (press and hold). The context menu appears that allows you to see an image, go to image info or author info. The last option is "Save On SD Card" - that's it.
--- to access saved images use any gallery software installed on your smartphone.
--- we are now discussing internally to make this option more visible in future.

I hope you find that useful - please comment if you have questions, ideas or want to discuss this feature!

This is a great feature. I note you put a watermark on downloaded photos. This may imply you approve of whatever is in the photo....like the recent stream of anal sex images which would presumably have "PHEREO.COM" proudly burned into them.

I thought that was funny.

I don't see how you can stop people uploading such things. Perhaps you can suggest they put them in a separate gallery that won't be publicly featured....or a user has to say they are 18+ to gain access to.

I really disagree with that position. I think that if you don't want people to save your pictures - don't show it to them in the first place.

I agree with Vapymid.

If you don't want people making / saving copies of your images, don't upload them. There is no way to stop this...as all they need to do is a screen capture on a PC, tablet or capable phone.

Attribution in the case of any re-use would be nice as far as I'm concerned.....(or put your own watermark in your images).

I appreciate that people trying to make a living from their photography will have different requirements. That isn't me. I'm operating in "share and share alike" mode.

Phereo app saves the stereo image in the JPS format, but default gallery of Sharp does not allow show it (only MPO files).

Path to the saved stereo images: [SD Card]\DCIM\phereo\img

On the HTC 3D no matter how long I press the thumbnail nothing happens! Did I miss something?

Saved photos i see in the gallery, but some of them show sliced diagonally and some freeze or crash htc gallery. I guess it has to do with odd pixels or jps, but 3d party programs will display happily Jps.
