What format is this? And How to View on PC?

Postby 5b75ad508884282b0b000000 » Thu Aug 16, 2018 6:53 pm

I found some 3D images on the net that are side by side, but looked squashed vertically. People look much too thin etc.

This might be an older format for looking at stereo prints through some kind of viewing device.

Does anyone know what this is and how it can be viewed undistorted on a PC?

I have a couple of images. Seems they are stills from a 3D movie.

This is HSBS (Half Side by Side format). It is used to squish 3D into the normal aspect ratio for video. If you want to convert to normal aspect 2D follow the link: https://www.vlchelp.com/how-to-convert- ... movie-vlc/

The Tridef software that came with my passive monitor takes this as one of the format choices for watching video. If you want to watch in 3D on your system it depends on your hardware and viewing method.

Thanks for that link. I now know what the format is called. That's a help.

The process you linked to turns the image from HSBS 3D to 2D, which is not what I want to do. What i want is to end up with a side by side image with the proper proportions. In other words, HSBS 3D to normal 3D. I was hoping there was a way to do this somewhat automatically so that I could view these images or videos without having to manually convert the aspect ratio. Since this is a common format, I would have assumed that there was a way to view images in this format on a computer.

The "squashed" format (hSbS) you need for almost all 3D TV, 3D smartphones or 3D tablets. I don*t know any TV that can handle fullSbS images. But most TVs accept .mpo files.
In other word: if you or I find a squashed image, it is good for all may devices. All you need is TriDef on smartphones or tablets as software.
Use StereoPhoto Maker on your computer. It reads and converts almost all 3D formats. But NVIDIA 3D Vision is a special case.

Thanks for your help. Maybe the photos I enclosed are nVidia 3D Vision because I don't see a feature to convert hSBS to full frame side by side, which is what I am looking for.
