3DTV General Info

I would like everyone with a 3DTV to share their information on how it works for them, as well as explaining its features for viewing web/digital images like those featured here on Phereo.
It would be great if we could keep this thread alive and ongoing.
This ongoing information might prove helpful for anyone considering a purchase of a 3DTV, or anyone having issues with their 3DTV system.
For my part, I was very surprised that LG does not promote their TVs features for viewing side by side, web content, etc. If I had known it had such cool features, I would've bought a 3DTV much sooner.
Afterall, how many 3d blu rays can one man watch?

For starters, I have an LG 47" Passive (polarized) 3DTV. model [47LB65OO]
It is also a smart-alec TV. Bought it on sale from Sears.
The remote has a 3D button, that allows you to manually engage SBS (side by side) 3D and convert it into a polarized image.
Their are several settings in the IMAGE part of the menu that allow some additional 3D tweaking, like convergence and LR swapping, etc
The USB inputs will accept a jump drive w/ jpeg files with left and right full size images.
If I put the same drive in my bluray, the photos have to be a, two image SBS 1920x1080 (squeezed) image.
When I access Phereo, I can only watch 3D with the Phereo interlace button. When I choose 3DTV, I see the two SBS squeezed images, but my remote will NOT let me engage SBS 3D.
However, when watching SBS movies from youtube, I can turn on SBS 3D on my TV and enjoy youtube movies in 3D.

If others are curious about LGTV menu features, I might provide some photos of the feature set.
Thats all I got for now.

I have a lower-end LG passive monitor; mine is a 23" version. It's just a monitor and lacks a TV tuner or any kind of networking or web browsing capability. I have it connected to a Mac Mini which I use to deliver content.

My monitor has a similar set of features to yours; especially regarding decoding SBS squeezed images with the automatic "3D" button. Unlike you, I have no difficulty viewing Phereo photos in "3DTV" mode, perhaps because it's my Mac that's doing the browsing and displaying, not the monitor itself; still, I usually prefer to use the "interlaced" mode anyway as it provides full resolution.

I was initially amused by the monitor's optional feature to synthesize depth from a 2-D source. It sort of works, I guess, in the sense that mostly it guesses correctly which parts of the frame are background and which are foreground, and the whole concept *is* pretty impressive from a technical standpoint; but artistically it doesn't add anything meaningful to the content and it just means you're watching your movie (or whatever) through headache-inducing glasses for no good reason.

I suspect this kind of "3D" button feature, to automatically decode SBS squeezed or other kinds of 3D content from various sources, is common on most 3-D capable monitors and projectors, but like you, I didn't know about it until I'd purchased one for myself. I'm a bit surprised it's not advertised more, but I think the electronics companies were hoping that 3-D display capability would be a much bigger draw than the market eventually demonstrated, and they've largely lost interest in advertising it now.

Google translate:

3-4 years ago we bought a Samsung 6 Series with Internet access. The TV has a 3D video applications and Phereo. And learned about the existence Phereo.com. The first time most watched videos in 3D. Also interested in photography. Annex Phereo pictures look full. But the application is updated rarely, sometimes there are new photos, but quickly disappear. If this application allows you to view new photos uploaded to the site, or at least not all, but popular, it would be good. The TV has a normal web browser. If you go through the site Phereo.com, then the photos will be displayed as an ordinary monitor, even when 3DTV displays parallel images. You can certainly switch button to view 3D (if any video and photos are bulky), but this image is not very high quality and it is not interesting to watch. Having seen other people's photos, I wanted to shoot your own. With 3D TV, you can always see them on the big screen, 3D and more interesting than the usual photos. Began to look 3D camera and chose the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3. He was the only commercially available, as well as in terms of price and quality. Photos simply reset to the flash drive, connect it to your TV and watch. Easy and convenient. Movies also look from the flash drive or a removable HDD. We do not use any player to view conventional and 3D photos, videos, it's more convenient. When viewing 3D pictures on a TV via the network from a computer, they will not automatically be played like 3D.

I must have missed this post and I added a separate one. Sorry.

My SONY 3D (passive / polarized) Smart LED 42" TV supports 3D in many ways, but the results are variable. For example, if iI choose side-by-side 3D via the Remote control, it looks like the images must be squeezed to appear properly. If I try to display full-width SBS images they do not align properly and look terrible.

Being a cheaper model, the processor and memory available aren't very good...so the Opera-based web browser is slow and navigating via the remote to the on-screen keyboard is tiresome and slow. I have not tried playing my Fuji 3DW3 images / videos directly to the screen. I'll try it this weekend. :-)

I use a Philips 27" Passive 3D Monitor attached to my Mac Mini quadcore i7 2.3 GHz Late 2012.
I also have my Sony Bluray player attached to it which works flawless with this with output set to 'auto' and the 3d input on the monitor to 'auto'.
It has 3 HDMI 1.4a, 1 VGA and 4 usb ports. The usb ports are however just a seperate hub living in the monitor with a usb3 socket for connecting to your pc.
Because the monitor is 1080P you can see the lines when using 3D, but when watching fullscreen it is awesome. And i even managed to watch 3d blurays with powerdvd and my external hd-dvd/bluray combo drive when booted in windows. You just have to select interleaved in the 3D setup of powerdvd.
Since it is a passive panel you can use everything interleaved, be it youtube, via a player like bino, or selfmade photos or videos that way. Although with the latter you run into trouble with pixels being blended as part of compression, while using interleaved by programs they live render uncompressed.
The only drawback of the monitor is the surrounding 'white' leds as backpanel lightning. And i am very sensitive to those as they don't actually produce white light but uv, violet or blue with a yellow phosphor over it. It has a pungeont brightness glare no matter how i callibrate. There are panels with a grid of rgb leds as backlightning, but those are far more expensive.

If you'd use a passive panel you'd see the below picture in 3d right away.

I have a passive LG 3D monitor and the photo you posted is in 3D on my monitor. Nice! :-)
